In order to understand how smoking weed gets you high, it’s important to know what chemical compounds make up the “high” one may experience while under the effects of cannabis. See the second page for the scientific explanations and terms.

Here are the key characteristics of good pot from the range of how it smokes to how it looks:

Looks-
Green. Lime Green, Dark Green, Hues of Purple and even black, blue and pink can color the leaves. Colors that are exaggerated when the plant is exposed to cold weather during night time. These are all signs of good quality cannabis.

White, yellow and brown are never good signs on the leaf.

The shiny white frosting (called trichomes) hold the majority of THC on the plant. One can view the maturity of the trichomes under a magnifying glass. If the trichomes are clear (as displayed in the picture of growing cannabis), then the high has not fully developed yet. If the trichomes are cloudy (as displayed in the second picture), then the high has developed. A good mix of mostly cloudy trichomes and some amber ones constitutes the highest grade cannabis that has been grown to its optimal maturity.

Some weed is manicured by hand and others by machine. Having too much leaf on a plant is usually signs of home growing and a way to leave some extra weight on the plant. While this is okay if there are sufficient trichomes on the leaf, this is usually a sign of a lazy grower. Good buds are carefully manicured so only the best parts of the cannabis are left to smoke, the rest usually used for hash trimmings.

Smokes-
If the ash burns white than the plant has had all of it’s hard metals and nutrients flushed out properly. This is more noticeable in “organic” grows.

The smoke should be smooth – even if it makes you cough the smoke should not taste harsh.

A great strain has a flavor and after trying enough of them you can discover your favorites.

Smells-

Good pot always has a smell. If it doesn’t have an apparent smell, then pick it up and squeeze it so you can get the smell out of a dryer nug. If there is no smell at all, then its bunk or stale weed. Good weed smells vary from fruity, skunky, cheesy, diesel, piney and sometimes even chocolate cannabis strains. If the smell is disgusting to you then the taste of the bud will be the same. You can smell rot on bad bud, so always trust your nose.

Feels-

Sticky to the touch! The best weed rubs off on one’s fingers. When the only way to break it up is in a grinder, you know you’re dealing with primo bud. However if the nug is too wet the smoke will taste harsh. Wet bud is always heavier. For the best quality smoke, it’s best to allow the plant to dry first. Too wet can turn into mold, so be careful for white powdery mildew and black bud rot on your wet nugs.

Bud packed into a brick shape is most likely lesser quality. Lots of stems and or seeds signal an outdoor grow. The value of the bud is that which represents the supply and demand for bud of it’s quality in your area. The highest quality has no seeds and a strong smell while lesser quality may contain seeds and have a less pungent odor.

My neighbor was a judge for a majority of his life.. Wasn’t a friendly dude, but had very nice children. When he died, his daughter was throwing stuff out and asked if my fam if we wanted anything  before she threw it out. Easy to Make Homemade Bongs

woohoo they’re finally here!! so.. a friendly guy who wanted to remain anonymous submitted these. He took some 1 hitters and downstem pipes and put them inside plastic bottles he cut holes into. Added a rubber stopper to make it extra leak proof. This ones a surefire good hitter from the looks of it.

Something about sucking on a vape bag reaalllyyy gets me going. Let me be blunt. No vaporizer does a better job of filling said bag of fun than the Volcano vaporizer. I can only rave.

Go ahead, call me an elitist snob. I know the price tag is by no means pocket change…but I will put my stoner status on the line for the Volcano. It will fuck you up, and you will love it.

The Volcano definitely gives credence to the old adage “you get what you pay for.” When friends come to sit tee-pee style around my Volcano, they know their vape session won’t disappoint. Nobody says no to the Volcano.

My review pertains to the Volcano Classic, equipped with the Solid Valve set. I know there’s a digital Volcano, and there’s another valve set called EZ Valve, but I opted for neither.

My motivation behind what I went with:
The selling point for the Digital is its “precise [temperature] control.” While the Classic has a rotary knob and dial, the Digital features an LED screen that “tells you” the temperature at which your cannabis is being vaporized. Personally, I could care less about this feature, and I’ll tell you why.
The Classic retails for about $540, and the Digital at around $670.  Nevertheless, for the extra $130, the Digital is accurate only to +/- 2.7 degrees, compared to the Classic’s +/- 9 degrees. Even with $100 increase in price, the vaporizer isn’t “telling me” the exact temperature anyway, so what’s point?

If you’re using your vaporizer strictly for cannabis consumption, I think you should pocket the extra $130 and just buy the Classic. The bioactive chemicals in cannabis burn ideally between temperature settings 5.5 through 7 (max 7.5) on the Volcano. Within this range fall tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) at 149.3 °C, cannabinol (CBN) at 212.7 °C, and cannabidiol (CBD) at 206.3 °C.

I also happen to think the Classic looks better than the Digital. It strikes me as very old school mad scientist. If you ask me, it has more character. Plus, Storz & Bickel only offer their five year warranty to the Classic. Of course the question is always why. I’ll admit to some ignorance and disinterest there. I’m happy with my warranty and less cash out of pocket.

Now the Volcano is not enough to make the magic happen. You’ll also need a valve set; it includes, among other smaller pieces, the mouthpiece and bag. The valve set is included in the price but you’ll have to decide whether you’ll want an EZ Valve or Solid Valve.  The difference is that the EZ Valve is replaceable so you don’t have to clean it.  However you get 5 EZ Valves with your Volcano.  A replacement set of 6 runs you $70.

I was not impressed by the EZ Valve set at all. I just think the Solid Valve is a nicer investment. It’s a sturdy stainless steel piece. When you hold it in your hand, you can feel the weight – a legitimate piece of engineering.

Further, The EZ Valve set gives you pre-sized bags (really, what they are giving you is a pre-sized valve set). With the Solid Valve set, you can size out your own bag. The feeling of freedom I get from vaping with a 2 foot+ bag really can’t be beat.

I knew I made the right decision in purchasing my Volcano when I first dissembled the Solid Valve mouthpiece for its first cleaning. The valve set comprises a bunch of intrinsically engineered component pieces. The level of detail and quality manufacturing of this product is astounding. It amazed me, and I’m not sure any description of mine could do it justice. Below you’ll see a picture of what I mean. Storz & Bickel = no joke.

Cleaning
After about 100 uses, I clean my Solid Valve set. I know people who recommend cleaning every 150 uses as fine. I noticed that the bag gets dirty before the rest of the valve set. This observation actually made me very happy, because I figured out that I can be more flexible with when/how clean. (For example, I can choose to only replace the bag if I see the rest of the mouth piece is not grimed up.)
Personally, I know I would be throwing money out the window if I purchased an EZ Valve set – because once the bag gets dirty, you have to throw out the entire EZ Valve set. And like I said before, their replacements aren’t cheap.

The Cleaning Process:
A cleaning brush is of course provided.  Though the cleaning process is relatively simple, it can be time consuming due to the smaller size of some pieces. It can take a half hour to do a thorough job.
1.) Soak the pieces in alcohol for ten minutes.
2.) One by one, remove each piece from the alcohol and rub it clean with the brush. Gently scrub away any stubborn resin.
3.) Lay  the pieces out to dry on some paper towels afterwards, and you’re done.

Replacing the bag on the Solid Valve is also quite easy…
1.) Simply cut to the size you want and stick it into the mouth piece attachment.
2.) A round rubber band-like component is included in the valve set. Use this to affix the bag into the mouth piece.

Of course, directions for all these procedures are included (with pictures!) when you buy a Volcano. They are actually pretty straightforward.

Technicalities aside, it’s time to discuss what it’s like to get high using a Volcano vaporizer. So without further ado…

The High….which is really why you read this review

Each time you reload the fill chamber with new bud, you can expect to get 5-6 bags out of it, depending on your heat settings. If there’s a bite in the vapor flavor, replace the cache. Spent bud may or may not cause you to experience a quick cough. My method is to start the Classic at 5.5 and work my way up to 7.  After every bag, I’ll move it up half a notch. I usually vape a couple of bags at 6 however, which I think is the ideal temperature. You should not vaporize cannabis above the 7.5 mark. The first reason is that vaping cannabis above 7.5 on the Classic destroys nearly all its beneficial compounds. Second, vaporization is the most lung-friendly way to smoke since no actual combustion occurs. However if you set the vape to 8 or higher, you are effectively searing your lung and tracheal tissue. High settings are for other types of herbs (remember that the Volcano and other vapes are sold commercially for therapeutic purposes, meaning other people vaporize herbs like Sage, Chamomile and Lavender for their ailments).

Depending on the number of bags you inhale, you’ll be anywhere from functional to totally blitzed…but the high will still stay clearheaded. There is absolutely none of that soupy high so notorious to bongs and bubblers. It’s very clean. (That doesn’t mean that after 10 bags things don’t start to get hazy.) It’s also immediate, since the vapor can enter the bloodstream though the lungs. I can tell you that the Classic makes for an extremely efficient delivery system.

I’ve tried my share of portable vapes and whips. They can’t touch the Volcano. Not even with the tip of a finger. I believe what you’re paying for is the vapor quality in general. With the Volcano, the vapor is extremely smooth, almost like steam. Cheaper vapes tend to hit harder, and not in a good way.  I don’t know what else to say except that you haven’t truly vaped until you’ve experienced the Volcano vaporizer…so get your own or get friendly with someone who has one.

PROS: Sexy, fun & efficient – it’s your ideal life partner! A strong, clear high; Conversation piece; Five year warranty!; Stoners love it!

CONS: $$$$$; No warranty offered on the Digital; Solid valve requires some maintenance, while the EZ valve can end up costing you more in the long run.

How to make a Bong:

You need:
-A water bottle. I like using a bottle for airsoft BB’s though. Any kind of plastic container, basically.
-Scissors
-A pen
-A small socket wrench head.
-Adhesive such as chewing gum, electrical tape, play dough, whatever.

1.Take your plastic container and either drink what’s inside, pour it out, or if it isn’t something you drink, pour it into a different container or throw it away.
2.Take the scissors and poke two holes in it. One near the top somewhere along the side of the bottle, and one about three quarters of the way down, towards the bottom, somewhere on the side. Turn the scissors around a little bit to make the holes circular and big enough for a pen to go in. If you’ve ever played a recorder in elementary school, that’s about how big the holes need to be.
3. Take the pen apart. Melt one side of the plastic casing not to burn it, but to be able to jam the socket wrench head in it. When the plastic cools, this makes the socket wrench have a long pipe on the end.
4. Jam the pen side of your pipe through the lower hole of the water bottle.
5. Take the cap off of the water bottle if you haven’t already.
6. Use any gum or playdough you might have to make it air tight except for the mouthpiece, and the carburetor hole.

To use:
1. Fill with water past where the pen side of the pipe sits in the bottom of the bottle. You don’t need a lot of water, but more means cooler smoke. If you prefer, and I do, try to make the water as cold as possible, or add in some mint extract, or maybe throw in some ice if you can fit it in the bottle. It’s awesome.
2. Pack your bowl full of tobacco, or whatever you’re smoking.
3. Light your lighter, put your mouth around the top of the bottle, and put your finger on the hole at the top.
4. Inhale until the bowl is completely cleared if you can, or just inhale as much as possible.
5. Just before you’re done hitting it, take your finger off of the carb hole at the top as to clear the bong of smoke.
6. Wait about 5 seconds, exhale.
7. Repeat forever and every day.

So what can you do with this now brownish colored vaporized bud?

1) Edibles: You can turn it into cannabutter using the recipe here! With cannabutter one can put up to 10 grams of vaporized bud into 1 stick of butter (being mindful of the potency of the bud being used, there is roughly 30-40% of that unburnt THC in the vaporized marijuana).

Once the cannabutter has hardened in the fridge I do a betty crocker chocolate chip cookie recipe which uses their mix and that 1 stick of butter. You can do any recipe that requires butter. The possibilities extend as far as butter uses (buttering bread, pasta butter sauce, etc). The key is to avoid the butter from losing potency, do not heat the butter over 375 degrees farenheit because as you already know, it vaporizes at that point.

2) Bubble Hash Oil: One can also use high percentage (90%+) Isopropyl Alcohol to create a Hash Oil from the vaporized marijuana. Simply use the finest grind you can on the vaporized bud and then combine it with Iso alcohol and allow some time to dissolve.

3) Tincture: Medicinal patients choose this method most. It involves using a very high proof drinking alcohol.. Preferably EverClear 190 proof. Combine it with as much vaporized bud to achieve the desired potency. Ideally an eye-drop of alcohol to get you lifted is most medicinal tincture makers goal. Some people directly store their vaporized bud in jar filled with alcohol so they allow time for the grass to ferment into the alcohol. 30 days

Q) Can you smoke vaporized marijuana?
A) Yes but think and long and hard before you do it because depending on the level of brownness (compared to the original color) the potency and tastes have burned out, it will burn fast and inconsistently in a joint.
